Run Club of the Week - ANTE
Running clubs in Berlin are more than just workouts; they’re communities that bring people together through movement. ANTE Laps, a monthly running event by ANTE, promises a mix of energy, connection, and great coffee. But does it live up to the hype? I joined one of their special events a few months ago, where I was also able to interview the founder, Marcus, and here's how it went. Let’s break it down.
1️⃣ Vibe & Community (4.75/5)
Friendliness & Inclusivity – ANTE Laps radiates a friendly and inclusive atmosphere from the start. Whether you’re a first-timer or a regular, the group welcomes you with open arms. There’s no pressure to be fast or experienced; the focus is on community and shared movement. It feels like running with a big group of friends who genuinely enjoy each other’s company.
Energy & Atmosphere – The energy is balanced—it’s not an overly hyped, high-adrenaline scene, but it’s far from dull. It has a natural excitement, fueled by good people, great conversations, and the thrill of running through the heart of Berlin.
Runner Mix – The runner mix is diverse, ranging from casual runners to those who train regularly, making it an accessible experience for all.
Post-Run Social Aspect – After the run, the social aspect truly shines. Unlike some clubs where people disperse immediately, at ANTE Laps, the post-run hangout is just as important as the run itself. Everyone sticks around, sipping coffee, sharing stories, and enjoying fresh croissants. It’s the perfect way to cap off a morning workout.

2️⃣ Route & Scenery (3.75/5)
Variety – ANTE Laps typically routes through Berlin’s iconic streets, offering a mix of urban charm and historical landmarks. The planned route this time was slightly altered due to street closures, but the detour added to the adventure.

Scenery – Brandenburg Tor made a grand appearance mid-run, a reminder of why running in Berlin always feels special. While the run mostly sticks to city streets, it’s safe, with well-lit roads and minimal traffic interruptions.
Safety – The roads are well-maintained, and traffic is managed well, making it a safe city run. However, occasional reroutes due to events might require adjustments.
Accessibility – LAP Coffee—the start and end point—is easily accessible by public transport, making it convenient for runners from all over the city.
3️⃣ Training & Structure (2.25/5)
Pacing Options – ANTE Laps follows a one-group, one-pace approach, typically at an easy, conversational pace (around 6km). It’s less about structured training and more about community movement.
Workout Variety – If you’re looking for speed drills or hill sprints, this isn’t the club for that—at least not yet. The focus is on easy social runs rather than structured training.
Coach/Leader Quality – The leaders are semi-experienced runners and set a great rhythm, ensuring no one gets left behind.
Warm-up & Cool-down – There’s no formal warm-up or cool-down, so you might want to do your own stretching before and after.
4️⃣ Facilities & Perks (3.5/5)
Bag Drop/Storage – Since ANTE Laps starts and ends at LAP Coffee, there’s a cozy space to leave your belongings (though not an official bag drop).
Water Stations – There aren’t designated water stations along the route, but water/coffee is available before and after the run.
Bathrooms/Showers – Bathrooms are available at the café, but there are no showers or changing facilities.
Brand Support/Gear Access – The biggest perk? The post-run fuel. Free coffee and croissants add a welcoming touch, making the experience feel curated rather than just another group run. While there isn’t direct brand sponsorship or gear testing, the laid-back, premium feel of ANTE as a brand, and the collaboration with LAP Coffee translates into the experience.

5️⃣ Uniqueness & Identity (3.75/5)
Traditions & Rituals – ANTE Laps stands out by blending community, design, and culture. It’s not just a run—it’s a curated experience that reflects ANTE’s aesthetic and values.
Club Personality – There’s no forced motivation or over-the-top energy; instead, it’s a stylish, effortlessly cool running experience that makes you want to come back.
Events & Experiences – The post-run coffee ritual feels like a tradition in itself—casual, unpretentious, and essential to the experience. And while some clubs focus on performance, ANTE Laps is about the joy of movement, connection, and a good start to your day.
Exclusivity vs. Openness – It’s open to all, no RSVP or membership required—just show up, run, and enjoy.
Final Verdict: Is ANTE Laps Worth Trying?
Absolutely. If you’re looking for a welcoming, well-organized, and social run club that doesn’t take itself too seriously, ANTE Laps is a fantastic choice. The city route keeps things interesting, the community keeps things fun, and the post-run coffee & snacks makes it all worth it.
Would I go again? 100%. But maybe next time, I’ll master that coffee dispenser on the first try. 😆
