Road to Berlin Marathon #16 - Good Luck Runners!
The final countdown is on!
For the past 15 weeks, we've been on this incredible journey with you, navigating everything from training peaks and tapering to nutrition and mental prep. Now, as our "Road to Berlin Marathon" series comes to an end, we've arrived at the best part: race week. 🤩
First and foremost, we want to say a huge thank you for following along with us. It has been a privilege to share this journey, and we sincerely hope that our articles have been a helpful and motivating companion as you've logged the miles and prepared for this day.
The hard work is officially done. The hay is in the barn. Your only mission this week is to trust your training and get your mind and body ready for Sunday. Forget about squeezing in one last hard workout. Instead, embrace the electric atmosphere of Berlin. Visit the marathon expo, meet fellow runners, and soak in the energy. It's one of the most special parts of the experience. If you feel the need to move, join one of the many easy shakeout runs happening around the city to keep your legs loose and calm your nerves.
As you prepare, focus on these final details:
- Fuel Your Body: This is the week to be mindful of what you eat and drink. Focus on hydration and topping off your glycogen stores with familiar carbohydrates. This is not the time to experiment and also not the time for a low carb diet start.
- Get Your Rest: Sleep is your most powerful tool right now. Put your feet up whenever you can. Your body repairs and strengthens itself during rest, so consider it an essential part of your training plan. Maybe add some stretching sessions to get everything stiff a bit looser.
- Craft Your Soundtrack: If you run with music, take some time to create your perfect race-day playlist. Fill it with songs that empower you during the morning, make you smile, and will give you that extra boost when you need it most.
On Sunday, when you're standing at the start line, take a deep breath and look around. You truly earned this moment. When the race gets tough, and yes it will, remember what a profound privilege it is to be out there. So many people dream of running this race and didn't get the chance. You are one of the lucky ones, and every painful step forward is a testament to your dedication.
Let the incredible Berlin crowd carry you. Listen to their cheers, read their signs, high-five the kids on the sideline, and thank the volunteers. The power of the people will give you energy you never knew you had.
From the entire team at Running FOMO, we wish you the very best of luck. Trust yourselves, run with heart, and enjoy your 42.2km victory lap through this amazing city. We are all cheering for you!
